Brazilian Rainbow Boa
(Epicrates cenchria cenchria)
This beautiful animal gets its name from its irridescent scales. Under good lighting, the "rainbow" effect can be seen along the snake's body. Brazilian rainbow boas usually attain lengths of between 5 and 7 feet but are not as heavily bodied as some of the other medium to large boas. A healthy 6 foot specimen may only weigh 10-12 lbs. Their range includes Suriname, Guyanan, southern Venezuela and Brazil. There are a few different color phases that exist in this species including very orange specimens and very red specimens. Although not all breeders of this species agree, it is our experience that Brazilian Rainbow Boas require a higher humidity than other boas.
